Representing HKBIO, our Council Member Dr. Bernard CHAN was invited by the British Consulate – General Hong Kong, UK Trade & Investment to meet with representatives from 6 UK life sciences and pharmaceutical companies. Biotechnology development in Hong Kong was introduced and possibilities of international collaboration discussed among these experts.

Since 1996, the Hong Kong IT Sector Gala Dinner has been an annual major activity, co-organized by over 30 organizations in the industry, widely supported by the organizations and corporations in the sector. This year, the National Day Celebration Dinner was held in HKCEC, gathering over 1000 professionals in the field. HKBIO was a co-organizer and our Executive Vice Chairman Dr. Terence LAU, Vice Chairman Dr. Bing Wong, and Dr. Bernard CHAN had joined the dinner, which was a good channel to foster closer cooperations between IT and biotech fields.

The University of Hong Kong and HKBIO jointly organized a general education course in biotechnology. The four sections were lectured by our Honorary Chairman Prof Yuk-Lam LO, Chairman Prof. Albert YU, Executive Vice Chairman Dr. Terence LAU, Council Members Dr. Wilton CHAU and Dr. Bernard CHAN. The speakers provided an overview on Hong Kong and China's biotechnology R&D, commercialization and potential development opportunities and shared success stories. Students actively participated in the course and learn more about the futures of biotechnology.

Before the announcement of the policy address, HKBIO had submitted an opinion letter to the Chief Executive, urging the government to recognize the importance of biotechnology in Hong Kong and provide support to assist development of the biotech industry. Hong Kong has huge potential to act as a "one-stop" solution provider for food safety testing and quality assurance and other relevant areas.

September 13, 2010 – October 8, 2010

HKBIO was invited to be one of the exhibitors of the Biomedical Engineering Roadshow 2010 and to introduce its professional services and R&D achievements. The Show was organized by the Biomedical Division of the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers and was held at the Jinan University, South China University of Technology and Sun Yat-Sen University, Guangzhou. The roadshow aims to foster better understanding on Hong Kong's biotech by university students in China and biotech professionals, and would facilitate collaboration between Hong Kong and China at the same time.
