The Wuhan Delegation of the East Lake Hi-Tech Development Zone visited Hong Kong and held a seminar at the Hong Kong Science Park, gathering friends and professionals from the IT industry and the biotechnological industry. The Wuhan East Lake High-tech Zone as an approved national demonstration zone for independent innovation was introduced and the latest development in biotechnology and information technology in Hong Kong was recognized. Possibilities of collaboration were also explored through mutual communication. HKBIO Executive Vice President Dr. Terence LAU, Vice President Dr. Bing Lou WONG, and Prof. Christopher CHENG, Director of the Hong Kong Institute of Biotechnology and other representatives from the industry actively participated in the event.

August 22 – August 29, 2010

Mrs. Rita LAU, Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, HKSAR, led a delegation to visit Scandinavia, with the objectives of promoting Hong Kong's technology industry development as a whole and Phase III of Hong Kong Science Park. Prof. Albert YU, Chairman of HKBIO was invited to join the delegation, together with Ms. Janet WONG, ITC Commissioner, Mr. Victor LO, Chairman of Hong Kong Design Centre and Mr. Nicholas BROOKE, Chairman of HKSTP. As the leader of HKBIO, Prof. YU presented an overview of biotechnology development opportunities in Hong Kong.

HKBIO organized a boat trip in Shenzhen in mid-Summer 2010, joined by Chairman Prof. Albert YU, Honorary Chairman Prof. Yuk-Lam LO, Council Member Dr. Bernard CHAN, and friends from the Hong Kong and Shenzhen government. While enjoying the relaxing atmosphere, communication between Shenzhen and Hong Kong was strengthened and opportunities of collaboration were explored. This is another valuable chance for both cities to learn from each other after the Biotechnology Exchange Tour to Shenzhen.

On July 15, students from Lam Tai Fai College visited the Hong Kong Science Park under the lead of HKBIO Council Dr. Bernard CHAN and HKSTP representative Mr. Paul CHAN. Dr. Bernard CHAN introduced the recent development in the field of biotechnology and the role of HKBIO in promoting Hong Kong's biotech. Students learned more on how their knowledge could be applicable in real life and the biotechnology industry in Hong Kong.

President, Dr Anthony CHAN and members of The Hong Kong Association of the Pharmaceutical Industry (HKAPI) met with HKBIO's Executive Vice Chairman, Dr. Terence LAU; Vice Chairman, Dr. Bing-Lou WONG, and Council Member, Dr. Bernard CHAN to discuss possibility of future collaboration between the two organizations. The meeting covered various grounds, exploring potential avenues on building long-term relationships between both organizations that would provide mutual benefit to members, and to the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries. Joining the meeting also was Dr. Stephen LAM, Senior Manager of Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks.

HKAPI was formed in 1968 with a goal to provide maximum information on all matters relating to the Hong Kong pharmaceutical market. Today, HKAPI is the pre-eminent member-based pharmaceutical association in Hong Kong, playing a major role in providing a voice for the community on healthcare and related issues.
