Together with Innovation and Technology Commission (ITC), Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation (HKSTP), Guangdong Provincial Association for Science and Technology and Shenzhen Provincial Association for Science and Technology, Hong Kong Biotechnology Organization (HKBIO) has organized the Satellite Forum on HK-Guangdong Biotech Cooperation, supported by the Hong Kong Trade and Development Council (HKTDC). The Satellite Forum on HK-Guangdong Biotech Cooperation is one of the major events in the biotech industry of the Pearl River Delta Region. Experts from Guangzhou, Shenzhen and Hong Kong gather at the Tulip Hall of the Shenzhen Convention and Exhibition Centre, where the Satellite Forum is held, to discuss various issues about the development of biotechnology with over a hundred guests.
Our Forum is greatly supported by the academia, industry and the government of the PRD Region. The Honourable Chun-Ying LEUNG, GBS, JP, Convenor of the Non-official Members of the Executive Council, and The Honourable Mrs. Regina IP LAU Suk-Yee, GBS, JP, Legislative Council Member both sent their congratulatory note on the success of the Forum. Prof. Albert YU Cheung-Hoi, Chairman of HKBIO, offered a welcoming speech and stressed on the support of the governments of the PRD Region. Various strategic plans such as "Framework Agreement on Hong Kong-Guangdong Co-operation", "Key Tasks on Implementing the Outline of the Plan for the Reform and Development of the PRD", "Guangdong-Hong Kong Technology Cooperation Funding Scheme" and others provide the best platform for local biotech industries to upgrade, cooperate and even penetrate into the overseas markets.
Mr. GAO Guo-Hui, Deputy Secretary-General of the Shenzhen Municipal Government, mentioned that the Shenzhen Government has been actively promoting the biotech industry under the Twelfth Five-Year Plan of the Central Government. Benefiting from the geographical advantage, a win-win situation could certainly be achieved by Hong Kong and Shenzhen.
Mr. ZHENG De-Sheng, Manager for Cooperation and Exchange, Guangdong Provincial Association for Science and Technology, spoke on how to strengthen cooperation between Hong Kong and Guangdong. With profound discussion with the industry, frequent and high level exchange tours, development of the biotech industry in the PRD Region could surely be facilitated.
Ms. Janet WONG Wing-Chen, JP, Commissioner for Innovation and Technology, shared her views on innovation and technology development in Hong Kong in relation to Hong Kong-Guangdong cooperation. Innovation and technology industries have been growing steadily with strong financial support from the Hong Kong Government. Coverage of the funding schemes such as Innovation and Technology Fund, The Hong Kong R&D Centre Programme and Research and Development Cash Rebate Scheme, has been broaden to benefit more firms. The Hong Kong Government is also cooperating with the Ministry of Science and Technology of the Central Government, the People's Government of Guangdong Province as well as the Shenzhen Municipal Government, in order to provide funding schemes for Hong Kong firms to develop in China.
