You can also experience the natural side of Hong Kong by visiting its country and marine parks. There are in total 24 country parks designated for the purposes of nature conservation, countryside recreation and outdoor education and 22 special areas created mainly for the purpose of nature conservation.
Kam Shan Country Park (金山郊野公園) is one of Hong Kong's first country parks and the nearest to Kowloon urban districts. It is set mainly in reservoir catchment areas, extending to Smugglers' Ridge in the north and is famous for its macaques.
The 61-hectare Hong Kong Wetland Park in Tin Shui Wai, New Territories demonstrates the diversity of the Hong Kong's wetland ecosystem. It presents an opportunity to provide an education and recreation venue with a theme on the functions and values of wetlands for use by local residents and overseas visitors.
